All-Access: BetsyAcaFest 2017 Workshops

The Betsy’s A Cappella Festival Chorus

All festival participants perform with The Betsy’s A Cappella Festival Chorus. This is always a highlight of the weekend and closes the Saturday night showcase. The Betsy’s A Cappella Festival Chorus Chorus is directed by Ben Bram and Rob Dietz.

In order to perform with the chorus, participants must attend Friday evening’s mandatory rehearsal. The rehearsal runs from 7:30p until we end for the night. Music is provided ahead of time, and we expect all music to be fully memorized by the weekend of the festival.

The Chorus also rehearses after the Mix & Match mini-showcase and has a dress rehearsal in the performance venue immediately before doors open Saturday evening. All rehearsals are mandatory.

All participating groups will be guaranteed a masterclass in one of the four masterclass windows:

– Friday, November 10: 4p-5p

– Saturday, November 11: 9a-10a

Once your group is fully registered, please reach out to ranking all four masterclass windows in preference order. While we will do our best to take clinician requests into account, we will not be able to guarantee masterclasses with a specific clinician.

Attending BetsyAcaFest without a group? Have no fear! All masterclasses will be open to any participants who are interested in sitting in and learning from our fantastic instructors and talented participating groups. A schedule of all masterclasses will be released in November, one to two weeks before the festival.

Mix & Match

Community, creativity and collaboration are three key pillars upon which The Betsy’s A Cappella Festival was founded. In 2015, we created a new type of workshop that we call “Mix & Match.”

How it works:
All instructors provide a favorite arrangement from their archive to bring back to life at this year’s festival. As groups and individuals register, they will be mixed up into new groups under each instructor. Each singer will then be tasked with coming to BetsyAcaFest prepared to sing (or beatbox!) on their voice part with a new group of singers from all over the country. Music is provided ahead of time expect all participants to be fully memorized the weekend of the festival.

This is another touch point to work and sing with our world class instructors and – even better – an opportunity to make new aca-friends! This workshop will culminate in a “Mix & Match” mini-showcase on Saturday afternoon.
